A father-of-four was ‘effectively executed’ in aDean Edwards was gunned down two years ago as he walked back from a pub towards Anerley station.
Speaking at the Old Bailey, prosecutor Julian Evans QC said: ‘Given the circumstances in which Dean Edwards met his death – shot once to the back of his head as he walked through Betts Park on his own, late at night – there can be no doubt, say the prosecution, that he was murdered. ‘Alternatively, it may be that the shooting was motivated by the need to make some sort of “statement” in the Penge area and that it did not matter who got shot.
The jury told that he jury was told that ‘in all likelihood’ the gun was a self-loading pistol, with a 9mm cartridge case found close to the body just off a path.Mr Evans said: ‘In all likelihood, the man who shot him – the gunman – must have been lying in wait somewhere inside Betts Park.
