Abdullah is being held in jail without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 21, according to San Francisco Sheriff's Office records.
San Francisco prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old man with hate crimes after he was arrested for allegedly chasing and injuring another man while shouting anti-LGBTQ slurs.
"Our city is proud of our diversity and for being an open and welcoming beacon to all people, especially those who have been marginalized elsewhere," District Attorney Brooke Jenkins said in a prepared statement."Hate crimes that seek to demean and otherize people because of who they are, what they look like, or who they love are unacceptable and will be prosecuted."
The two men alleged Abdullah had followed them "while simultaneously aggressively shouting anti-LGBTQ language," according to the San Francisco Police Department.
