Since last week, the fund has raised over $60,000 more than they typically raise in a one-month period.
WASHINGTON — Benny Del Castillo said she does not usually take her lunch break in a Washington, D.C. park.
“It was a rough week emotionally,” she said. “It is a lot of labor and energy all the time. At least for me, it is a very personal issue.” “It doesn't change our work. So the reason abortion funds exist to this day, and they had to exist is because Roe v. Wade was never enough,” Del Castillo said. “We've worked with folks from Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut. And that's is never going to change, right. So what it can mean maybe more logistically is more people will now have to cross borders to access their abortion, meaning clinics will be more full.
If the Supreme Court does overturn Roe, it would split the country in two — between states that allow abortions and those that do not. That would likely trigger another battle over women from Texas and other places that restrict abortions traveling to states that guarantee abortion rights. The passage of such a law likely would lead to legal and constitutional challenges. Texas already has a law enacted before Roe that makes it a crime to “furnish the means for procuring an abortion.”
