is calling for the leaders of the Secret Service and the Department of Homeland Security to resign following the failed assassination attempt of former President
The senator retweeted a post from Elon Musk on X, in which he called for the leader of the rally’s security detail and Kimberly Cheatle, director of the Secret Service, to resign. Musk’s tweet also included a BBC video interview of a Trump supporter who said he informed authorities of the shooter on the roof. He described pointing at Trump for several minutes but said he was ignored.
Cruz agreed with Musk and wrote that “the head of Secret Service should resign. So should the head of DHS.”The Secret Service is being scrutinized following the shocking shooting. In response, the Secret Service said the shooter was outside of its security perimeter and relied on local enforcement to handle it.that the Secret Service was relying on local police to do “significant parts of its typical array of specialized protective units.
Lawmakers are now demanding answers. Rep. Mark Green sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas requesting documentation related to the event’s security plan. Rep. Ruben Gallego sent a letter to Cheatle requesting to see if a proper threat assessment was conducted, if authorities and agents were alerted of the risk, and if protocols were properly followed.
