A passion play telling the Easter story took place today, with hundreds of people turning out for the Good Friday tradition.
The re-enactment started with the 'Walk of Witness' in Chapel Lane, Formby, at 11am, with the passion play taking place in Formby Pool Gardens at 11am.READ MORE: Joanna Lumley's 'wrinkle free' £4 moisturiser that's 'good enough for me' Passion plays originated in medieval times and were performed by city guilds in many medieval cities. In the UK, public performances of passion plays were popular from the 14th century to the mid-16th century, at which point the authorities suppressed them due to their Catholic associations.
