Critics slam coverage for missing black women and girls after police appeal 10 months after schoolgirl vanished by LeahMahon_
that local communities need to be “proactive” and continue to “make noise” about protecting black women and girls.
“Something I always have an issue with is discussion after discussion after discussion. And what they do like to do is produce reports to tell us stuff we already knew to begin with. It’s proven everything we already knew for the last two years – about the discrimination and discrepancy of black people going missing.”
It comes after the missing person case of student nurse Owami Davies, 24, gripped national headlines who was later found “safe and well” in Hampshire after vanishing for seven weeks. The media and police handling of the case was heavily slammed as critics drew comparisons to the national outrage given to the heartbreaking case of Sarah Everard in March 2021.
