The Ministry of Health reported 63 deaths in the first 12 days of the month, 42 of them in the week of Feb. 6 to 12.

It is the first full week of new COVID-19 data provided to the public since the provincial government stopped daily reporting on deaths, hospitalizations and case numbers.

Dr. Cory Neudorf is a professor of community health and epidemiology at the University of Saskatchewan and the interim senior medical health officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority.Hospitalizations are weighing down a health system already battered by nearly two years of the pandemic. “Surgery postponements could also be due to a service disruption or slowdown caused by staffing issues, including illnesses or redeployment to support surge demands,” said John Ash, the SHA emergency operations centre’s incident commander, in a written statement.
