A couple who "dreamt of becoming millionaires" have been jailed for defrauding their elderly parents and leaving them with just 28p.
The court heard how Fred and Enid Masell moved from their family home, also in Woolton, in October 2017, after more than 50 years. Enid had dementia and Fred was undergoing rehab for a recent fall that had seen him in hospital. The property was sold for £150,000 - significantly under the asking price - and the money was used to convert Gary and Diane's garage into a living area for the older pair, the court heard. But this area was separated by an alarmed wooden door and the elderly couple were "controlled", fed ready meals and kept shut away.

Fred, 83, said he "did not want to be here anymore following the ordeal". His beloved wife Enid died last December aged 81.
