The central lagoon has burst its banks
A country park in Nottinghamshire has been forced to close due to severe flooding. The closure of Gedling Country Park was announced on Friday afternoon as Storm Babet continues to cause disruption across the country.
A spokesperson for Gedling Borough Council said the central lagoon at the park had burst its banks. He said the measures had been taken due to health and safety concerns, with the café being closed at around 12pm. Videos posted to social media show water gushing down one of the park's paths at a high speed. In a statement on its Facebook page, the park said it would be closed for the rest of the day.It wrote: "Gedling Country Park has now closed, due to the severe weather. The park will remain closed for the rest of today ."
The Met Office has forecast heavy showers throughout Nottinghamshire on Friday, with a yellow weather warning for rain in place until 6am on Saturday. A number of roads have been closed across the county due to flooding, including parts of the A52.
