The Nottingham council has again refused to publish the damning financial report in full.
Nottingham City Council says it needs a "safe space" to consider a damning report into its finances as the authority again refuses to release it in full. The council claims that publishing the full findings of a review carried out by Ernst & Young would have a "significant disruptive effect."
Nottinghamshire Live's initial Freedom of Information request for EY's full report in July was refused by the council and the authority has now upheld that decision after conducting an internal review. Nottinghamshire Live will now be writing to the Information Commissioner's Office on the matter.David Brewster, senior information officer at Nottingham City Council, says there is "no compelling public interest" which overrides the need to maintain confidentiality.
In particular, the letter says that disclosing the full report would give the public a better understanding of the council's "shortcomings" and give them the opportunity to participate in the authority's processes in an "informed and meaningful" manner. But the letter goes on to say there is a stronger public interest in "ensuring that the quality of decision making is not harmed by confidential information being shared.
