Corby MP Tom Pursglove has been spotted door-knocking with bullying and sex abuse claims MP Peter Bone. DWP Minster Mr Pursglove was seen canvassing with his friend, who denies wrongdoing, as the PM was blasted for losing control of his party.
But some constituents were shocked to see their banned MP, with one later telling us “mud sticks”. And Labour Party Chair Anneliese Dodds said it “beggars belief” a Minister thinks it's “appropriate to walk hand-in-hand with someone suspended for bullying and sexual harassment”.Mr Bone, 71, was found by Westminster’s sleaze watchdog committee to have engaged in a “wilful pattern of bullying” by throwing things at his aide, striking him, and verbally abusing him.
When we approached Mr Bone during his door-knocking on an estate, he replied: “I’d love to talk to you but we’re out canvassing. Have a nice day.” He then waved cheerfully as he and Mr Pursglove drove off together. The allegations against the former Deputy Chief Whip sparked the end of Boris Johnson’s reign last year as questions about what he knew about the scandal triggered a wave of ministerial resignations. Now another nightmare by-election for the Tories looms as Wellingborough residents choose whether to boot out Mr Bone, who currently has a 18,540 majority. If 10 per cent of voters in the constituency sign a so-called recall petition by December 19, then a by-election is triggered.
