The City of Emeryville Community Development Department approved design review permits on March 8 that were previously submitted by the chain earlier this year, according to its. At this time, a proposed opening date has yet to be announced. SFGATE reached out to Chick-fil-A for comment but it could not share opening details.
“While we are still early in the process, Chick-fil-A is happy to share that we are actively pursuing our first location in the Emeryville area," Chick-fil-A, Inc. said in a statement via email."We look forward to working through the approval process with the City of Emeryville and are excited by the prospect of joining this community. We hope to have the opportunity to serve new guests delicious food in an environment of genuine hospitality.
Sheri Hartz, the city clerk for Emeryville, told SFGATE that building permits must be approved first by the city of Oakland since the Chick-fil-A store is bordering both East Bay cities. The restaurant chain is currently in the process of gaining its building permits, Hartz said.
“… There are already two fast-food restaurants with drive-thru service in this area of Castro Valley Boulevard, that has already a high traffic volume at this intersection,” last year. The staff report also noted that the new addition would not be a vital one or in line with “the intent and goal of the Regional Retail and Entertainment District.”
