They have made their victims' lives a misery
This week, LancsLive reported on the case of Simon Gill, who was jailed for two and a half years for coercive and controlling behaviour towards his wife. Gill controlled who his partner saw, stopped her friends from visiting and dictated how she wore her hair. At times the abuse escalated into physical violence or threats to kill.
When he thought she had been trying to chop at the chains, he broke her finger, Preston Crown Court heard on Friday, March 3. He also strangled her in a horrifying incident in which she thought she was going to die. The 43-year-old met his first victim on a dating site and after a happy start he began heavily criticising everything she did, lowering her confidence until she had none left. He controlled her movements, money and behaviour and demeaned her into sexual exploitive situations for his gain and stole from her. He was physically abusive, verbally threatening and left her a shell of what she was before she met him.
His mood swings, often prompted by his abuse of alcohol, left her constantly picking up the pieces. But despite 'trying to make things work' their toxic relationship had begun to impact on their little girl. And when she referred to her daddy as 'a bad man', Keeley knew she had to call it a day.
