Rodney Terry celebrated his promotion with Texas players earlier this week, but the Longhorns' roster will have a new look this fall with key faces departing.AUSTIN — Rodney Terry was still trying to grasp the new reality not long after Texas held off Rice for a dramatic overtime win at the Moody Center back on Dec. 12. Though Terry was a basketball lifer who’d spent more than half his years in coaching, this sort of maelstrom was unlike any he’d ever experienced.
“Get used to being in that chair for the rest of this season,” Barnes told Terry. “And really, at the end of the day, you’ve gotta approach this opportunity like you’re going to be there the next 20 years.” One of the first things Terry did after taking over for Beard was reach back out to the program’s two class of 2023 five-star signees, Duncanville forward Ron Holland and Southern California Academy combo guard AJ Johnson. Terry had been the lead recruiter for both prospects, and he helped reassure the players and their families that Texas was still their best option.“I’m really excited about it,” Holland said of Terry’s hiring during McDonald’s All-American Game media day.
