, but if they venture a few miles north up Main Street they'll find a basketball experience unlike any they've encountered, and in an unlikely place: the gallery of a major urban art museum.has converted its entire first floor into what curators say is the “first-ever playable basketball court in an art museum.
The museum describes the court as"emerging from Hancock’s hyper-imagination ... an immersive and uniquely spirited playing environment where audiences can dunk from the three-point line or lose themselves in the embrace of Hancock’s striped Bringback characters, which swarm from baseline to baseline."
Visitors trickled in and out of the museum Wednesday afternoon, gleefully checking out basketballs and hitting the hardwood; less experienced players lofted shots from nearby the 10-foot basket, while veterans of high school and college basketball programs dribbled over the artwork with a warm feeling of familiarity.
"Art and basketball seem like two completely separate worlds but they're actually extremely cohesive, so it makes perfect sense," Glasker said.
