Health officials say they prioritising residents' wellbeing as the four-month review process gets underway
An official consultation process is now underway on the proposed closure of two Lanarkshire care homes.

Families of residents at McClymont House have already held a public meeting opposing the plans, fearing their loved ones could be relocated as far afield as East Kilbride and Rutherglen, while unions said last month: “These cuts will have a significant impact on vulnerable people; we believe that the future of social care services is at risk.”
“My team and I remain committed to doing our utmost to protecting vital supports for the most vulnerable and those at most risk across our communities.” South Lanarkshire Council operates five residential care homes and figures show that their combined number of beds has almost halved from 260 to the current 115 during the past six years amid “reducing demand” for residential-only as distinct from nursing care.
A nine-bed wing at McClymont House has already been decommissioned, which a report noted “reflects the decrease in demand for residential care services, recruitment challenges and action to minimise unnecessary operating costs”.
