Congressman Jesus 'Chuy' Garcia formally announced a run for Chicago mayor Thursday at Navy Pier. Lori Lightfoot is also running for reelection.
He made the announcement Thursday alongside local elected officials, community advocates and neighbors.More than a dozen others have already announced that they are running to be Chicago's next mayor.
Constituents in Congressman Garcia's district said they believe he's going to quickly rise to become one of the top contenders for the mayor's seat. Little Village's Xavier Nava said he's met Garcia before while applying to college, and said the congressman's pivot to focusing on becoming the city's next mayor will bring some natural political adjustments.
