WASHINGTON—Congressional leaders and White House officials failed to strike a deal on coronavirus relief Thursday night, just hours before federal jobless benefits were set to officially expire Friday.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer rejected a short-term extension of federal unemployment aid, said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin after he and White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows left a two-hour meeting.
