Orchestra president Andre Gremillet officially dedicated the program to all Ukrainians and cast the exterior of Severance Music Center in blue and yellow light.
Severance Music Center was bathed in yellow and blue light Thursday night in a show of support for the people of Ukraine.CLEVELAND, Ohio – In peacetime, this week’s Cleveland Orchestra program would register as another instance of smart planning and largely brilliant execution. Many might never have thought of war.
This, though, isn’t peacetime. With Russia still actively assaulting Ukraine, the trio of works penned during or about war takes on greater significance. Even if orchestra president Andre Gremillet hadn’t officially dedicated the program to all Ukrainians or cast the exterior of Severance Music Center in blue and yellow light, most in attendance Thursday probably would have made the connection themselves.
