“The storm’s timing could not be worse given the increased number of travelers leading up to Christmas as well as the pressure retailers and shipping companies face to keep shelves stocked and items on track for delivery,” AccuWeather added. “Friday into Saturday as we head into Christmas Day itself, we have a coastal storm that is right off the shore,” Merwin said in a storm report on. “It really all comes down to placement. If that low is farther offshore, that could mean snow for a lot of locations; if it gets a little bit closer, the I-95 corridor could have rain.”
“Models disagree on the specific track and sensible weather impacts on our region, including frozen precipitation coverage and amounts, and that is completely unsurprising at this time range of a week out,” the weather service added. “However, the overall pattern appears very conducive to a significant storm system, with arctic air getting involved, which increases the threat of a stronger low pressure area and frozen precipitation for at least a portion of our area.
