A Discussion on Care Responsibilities and DEI Agendas A substantial body of research demonstrates that women tend to shoulder more domestic and care responsibilities than men, but how is this dynamic playing out in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic?

Alyson Smith, PhD, President of the Gender Policy Group, will explore how this crisis may have an impact on the unpaid distribution of labor within the home, particularly in terms of caring for children and elderly, as well as carrying out domestic responsibilities. Historically, crisis situations tend to exacerbate negative dynamics for women. We will discuss whether this crisis presents a different dynamic due to the fact that both men and women are required to be home at very high rates.

We will also discuss how Diversity, Equality and Inclusion agendas may be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Often, emergency and crisis situations prioritize immediate needs and shift longer-term priorities to the bottom of planning agendas. Given these dynamics, we will explore how this crisis may impact DEI efforts once we emerge from the emergency phase of this pandemic to longer-term planning and growth phases.
