Karen Lei's home is red-tagged. She lives next door to the house which exploded. On the other side, a yellow house is also condemned. It's where a preschool teacher and her family lived.
Police say a woman inside the house was killed. A caregiver made it out alive but suffered major injuries.
"There was a woman as soon as the explosion happened, I could hear this person screaming. I couldn't see her," the neighbor said. A partial police report obtained by ABC7 News anchor Dion Lim on Friday says a couple lived in the house along with their two children, who were at school at the time of the explosion.
The woman was disabled and was often assisted by a caretaker, who was in the basement doing laundry when the explosion happened.The suspect, 53-year-old Darron Price, was arrested on Friday.Two children who lived in the house were at school at the time of the blast. It's not known where Price was at the time of the incident or where the children are now.
"Quiet neighborhood. People are nice, and in the middle of the street, you have this guy who is doing something illegally," said Karen Lei.
