The objections by conservative witnesses were not that the proposed learning standards violated Senate Bill 3, the anti-critical race theory law; rather, they did not agree with the inclusiveness of those standards.Their objections rested on two arguments. First, that the new learning framework that integrates fourth and seventh grade Texas content into kindergarten through eighth grade social studies reduced the amount of Texas history students would learn.
Second, we know integrating content by linking it to a larger context leads to greater retention. For example, a student examining how the American and Texas revolutions were similar and different will retain more about those events than if they are taught separately.
