The Comal ISD school board selected John E. Chapman III as the lone finalist for superintendent on Sept. 19, 2022.The Comal Independent School District will have a new leader soon. The school board has selected John E. Chapman III as the lone finalist for superintendent.
Chapman is superintendent at Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD and has filled the role at other districts, including Chillicothe ISD, Comfort ISD and Ennis ISD, according to a news release from the Comal district. He has served a total of 17 years as a superintendent. But before his time leading school districts, Chapman was a teacher and coach in Lubbock. He worked his way up, serving as an assistant principal, a junior high principal and a high school principal.The finalist has earned high praise for his work. According to the news release, he has been named Superintendent of the Year for both Texas Education Region 13, while serving Comfort ISD, and Region 10, while serving Ennis ISD.
Jason York, Comal ISD Board of Trustees president, said that feedback from community members, parents and staff went into the decision to select Chapman.. Mandy Epley, who has been in administrative roles at Comal ISD since 2013, has been serving as acting superintendent.
