Family identified the man as 60-year-old Ronald Edmunds.
A Colorado man died Saturday after a lifeguard and his son-in-law pulled him from the Gulf, where he'd gone face-down and stopped moving.
Family identified the man as 60-year-old Ronald Edmunds, according to a Galveston Island Beach Patrol news release. Edmunds had been swimming near 21st Street and Seawall Boulevard, by the Grand Galvez hotel. Beach Patrol officials weren't immediately sure what caused Edmunds to go face-down in the waist-deep water but didn't believe rip currents caused him to drown. First responders took Edmunds to the emergency room at John Sealy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Edmunds and his family were on vacation over Labor Day weekend. This is the third open-water fatality in Galveston this year, according to the patrol.
