Collin Morikawa wins 102nd PGA Championship for first career major title
On Sunday, in his 29th professional start, he won the biggest tournament of his life, claiming the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco.Morikawa broke from the pack by firing a final-round 6-under 64 and finished with a 72-hole total of 13-under 267 to win by two strokes over Paul Casey and Dustin Johnson. Morikawa’s weekend rounds of 65-64 is the lowest 36-hole weekend score in PGA Championship history.
Morikawa made four birdies, including a chip-in birdie at 14, and drove the par-4 16th hole, setting up a 7-foot eagle to close out his first major championship. Morikawa led the field in driving accuracy and ranked first in Strokes Gained: putting. At 23 years, 6 months, 3 days, Morikawa is the third-youngest winner of the PGA Championship since World War II, behind Rory McIlroy and Jack Nicklaus.
Morikawa earns a lifetime exemption into the PGA Championship. He also earns five-year exemptions to the Masters, the U.S. Open, the Open Championship and the PGA Tour. During the trophy celebration, Morikawa made his only real slip-up of the day, when he hoisted the Wannamaker Trophy.
