Jonny McNee, DAERA Marine Plan team, photographing the rotor and rotor blades of the discovered Royal Navy Dragonfly helicopterOn November 25, 1958, a Royal Navy 'Dragonfly' search and rescue helicopter came down over the Lough during a rescue exercise, with the crash site now being located following a 3D Coastal Survey of the entire Northern Irish coastline.
The discovery of the Royal Navy helicopter was not expected in the survey with remnants of aircraft structure being initially spotted in aerial photos ofand a further physical inspection of the site revealed the wreck of a very early form of helicopter on the bank.
