A new report reveals that Tango Gameworks was pitching Hi-Fi Rush 2 to Microsoft, while Arkane Austin wanted to potentially work on a new Dishonored.
Microsoft shocked its fans earlier this week with the closure of Tango Gameworks , Arkane Austin , and Mighty Dog Games. Now, we’ve learned more about what these studios were working on.
A new report from Bloomberg delved into the fallout of these closures by Microsoft. Its anonymous sources claimed that “Tango was in the process of pitching a sequel” to Hi-Fi Rush, the critically acclaimed rhythm action game that launched last year. That certainly comes as a disappointment, as what could’ve potentially become a new hallmark franchise for Microsoft and Bethesda was kneecapped before it could truly take off.
Recommended Videos Then there’s Arkane Austin. IGN confirmed that an offline update and new heroes were planned for Redfall this year. Additionally, the Bloomberg report says the studio was also pitching its next title, claiming that Arkane Austin wanted its next project to be “a new single-player ‘immersive sim’ game, such as a new entry in the Dishonored series,” rather than another multiplayer game like Redfall. None of these projects will see the light of day now.
Related Bloomberg provided insight into a town hall meeting held after the studio closures, during which Head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty and Head of ZeniMax Studios Jill Braff claimed that Xbox management was spread too thin across all of the studios it spent billions acquiring over the past several years. “It’s hard to support nine studios all across the world with a lean central team with an ever-growing plate of things to do.
It looks like Tango Gameworks and Arkane Austin specifically were prime targets for closure because they were between projects and needed a lot of resources and oversight for whatever would come next from them.

Microsoft previews new Xbox Cloud Gaming interface with social features and UIMicrosoft is previewing a new Xbox Cloud Gaming interface today that includes the social features and UI you’d normally find in the Xbox dashboard. The new interface includes access to a web version of Xbox party chat, so you can use a browser to join a call with friends instead of the dedicated Xbox desktop and mobile apps. The updated web interface also includes the ability to find and manage Xbox friends, send messages, view user profiles and achievements, and even access notifications. Microsoft is testing this initially with Xbox Insiders before rolling this interface out to all Xbox Cloud Gaming users. As this new interface is part of Xbox Cloud Gaming, most of it will also be available on smart TVs and Meta’s Quest VR headsets, too. The Xbox party chat feature on the web isn’t currently available on smart TVs just yet, though. The Xbox Cloud Gaming interface had already been modeled on the Xbox console Home screen UI, so additional Guide features is a great improvement. Most of this functionality was only available once you launched an Xbox cloud game, so being able to start an Xbox party chat on the web and have it continue between game sessions will be very useful for Xbox Cloud Gaming players. As always, Microsoft is only previewing this new interface today, so it could be some months before all Xbox Cloud Gaming users will be able to get access to these new features
