For parents who are already sleep-deprived, the thought of being denied an hour’s sleep is NOT something to look forward to. Not to mention the impact the changing clocks could have on your baby’s sleep routine. We chatted to the sleep experts to find the best ways to help your baby and toddler adjust to the clocks going forward on 31 March, without you all ending up exhausted.

‘Gradually bringing bedtime, and the rest of their routine forward will help to prepare you and your baby. Some people do this in the lead up to the clocks changing by 15 mins per day, and others will just move things by half an hour the day before.’ ‘Make sure you and your little one get lots of fresh air, natural light and exercise the day of the clock change. This will help everyone to feel tired and to sleep well that night, plus it helps our circadian rhythm to adjust.’

‘A baby under 5 months or so does not yet have an established circadian rhythm and they are likely to be taking frequent shorter naps. This means that you can simply drop a nap and make bedtime earlier to accommodate for the clock change or add a nap and make bedtime later depending on how your day is going.’‘You can adjust nap times the day after the clock change and if you already have a chronic early riser then use the clock change to your advantage.

Only 30 people will be chosen – but you’ve got to be in it to win it, right? Here’s how to apply…

Some parents prefer to co-sleep with their infant, which the NHS says you can do but there are ways to do it safely. While the NHS said there are ways to co-sleep safely, there are risks that come with it including: The price drop comes after an investigation by the UK’s competition watchdog, Competition and Markets Authority found that prices of formula milk had shot up by 25% over the past two years. Which formula is being reduced in price? Tesco is cutting the prices of the following baby formula brands:

Aldi lowered the price of its Mamia Infant First Formula twice in a week, with its own-brand product now sitting at £8.49 for 900g. ‘At the same time, we’ve decided to remove exclusions on using Asda rewards vouchers to pay for baby formula as we want to do everything we can to help families manage their budget and keep their family fed.’

While many retailers have dropped their prices, they are still ‘historically high’, according to the CMA, with prices 25% higher than they were two years ago. ‘We’re concerned that parents don’t always have the right information to make informed choices and that suppliers may not have strong incentives to offer infant formula at competitive prices.’For example, no supermarket in the UK is allowed to promote or offer a discount on baby formula.

Previous studies on the impact of sleep have focused on teenagers, but this research, led by Professor Emily Merz, found that primary school children who lack sufficient sleep exhibit smaller and less developed brains. Another key finding in the study was that parents should set consistent family routines throughout the day and week. Regular family mealtimes, spending quality time together and morning routines all contribute to your child’s brain development.

Study author Professor Merz added: ‘Childhood is a sensitive period in development when environmental experiences can have powerful and lasting influences on the brain.Related stories: But now, the term has become part of the latest trend which sees parents sharing the little wins, and things that before might have been missed. What classes as an ‘inchstone’? What you call an inchstone might be different to something another parent would class one as. This trend is all about looking at your child’s individual capabilities and goals, and celebrating their own little wins, rather than the ‘expected’ bigger milestones that many children reach by a certain age.

Another cute idea is to keep a photo album of ‘firsts’, and get the pictures printed from your phone – or use a disposable or polaroid camera – so that you’ve got a keepsake of these moments. Write on the back of the photo and date it, so that you don’t forget the moment. In fact, Tracey even uses the idea in her own life to mark some of the things her children have done.
