The design for the first project in Bedrock's proposed $3.5 billion Cuyahoga riverfront project needs more work, according to the Cleveland City Planning Commission.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Members of the Cleveland City Planning Commission were delighted that the Cavaliers plan to bring their practice facility downtown from suburban Independence.
“If there’s nothing to do along the length of it, it’s a horrible place to be, even if it’s along the river,’’ Lillian Kuri, the chair of the planning commission, said at the meeting. Gilbert heads Detroit-based Bedrock and is owner of the Cavaliers, whose Rocket Mortgage Field House is part of the Gateway Sports Complex, just southeast of Tower City Center. The proposed new practice facility and Clinic would be minutes by foot away from the Cavaliers’ home court.
Friday’s discussion coincides with ongoing discussions between the city and Bedrock over a master development agreement for the riverfront project. The city is also exploring a tax increment financing to help pay for $400 million to $500 million in public infrastructure needed to leverage the Bedrock investment.
