Some of the films to be shown at the 17th Cleveland Jewish FilmFest include "Remembering Gene Wilder," "Yaniv" and "Irena's Vow."will showcase 34 films from 11 countries during its 11-day run from Oct. 12-22. Presented by the Mandel Jewish Community Center, the 17th annual event is meant to bring the best of international Jewish and Jewish-themed cinema to Northeast Ohio.
“Remembering Gene Wilder” kicks off the festival with an opening night screening at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History on Oct. 12. The documentary explores the life and career of the legendary comedic actor with classic clips and new interviews with Alan Alda, Mel Brooks and more. • “Women of Valor” - An Orthodox woman takes her fight for female representation all the way to the United Nations and Israeli Supreme Court in this documentary. Refreshments and film schmooze follow at Heights Arts.
• “Yaniv” - Beachwood natives Amnon Carmi and Benjamin Ducoff direct a drama about two high school teachers who infiltrate an underground card game run by Hasidic Jews.
