Chemical attack suspect Abdul Ezedi may have thrown himself off Chelsea Bridge and drowned in the Thames, police have said.
Metropolitan police officers have been chasing the 35-year-old Afghan asylum seeker since Wednesday, January 31, after he doused a mother and her two daughters in a chemical. The force has now said that they believe suspect Ezedi has “gone into the water” and is probably dead after he was last seen on Chelsea Bridge at 11.27pm on the night of the attack last week.They are searching the River Thames for his body.
Commander Jon Savell said: "At this time of year, the Thames is very fast flowing, very wide and full of lots of snags."It is quite likely that if he has gone in the water, he won't appear for maybe up to a month and it's not beyond possibility that he may never actually surface."Ezedi “walked with purpose” before walking across the bridge and then “his behaviour visibly” changed, the force added.

Former asylum seeker convicted of sexual assault identified as suspect in Clapham chemical attackThe suspect in the Clapham chemical attack is a former asylum seeker who was convicted of sexual assault in Newcastle, Sky News understands. Police have issued a new photo of Abdul Shokoor Ezedi, who only had his asylum granted on his third application. He was handed a suspended sentence for a sexual offence in 2018 and was discharged from probation supervision in 2020. The last-known sighting of Ezedi was captured in an image taken at 8.48pm on Wednesday in Caledonian Road, north London, less than two hours after the assault. Ezedi is believed to have purchased a bottle of water from a Tesco store before leaving and turning right. He has significant injuries to the right side of his face. If seen, call 999 immediately and do not approach him.
