Bostic was hired in the company’s first year of operations and became a ‘model flight attendant’ and a celebrity among her Southwest colleagues.

“At Easter time she would make businessmen dressed up in their suits hop onto the plane like rabbits,” said Melanie Brown, a flight attendant who worked alongside Bostic at Southwest from 1977 until 2020 and calls Bostic her best friend. “And they would do it — every one of them — with a smile.” In her 49-year career, Bostic was a celebrity among Southwest crew members, often being stopped by other flight attendants who wanted a photo with her, Brown said. In Southwest’s early years, Bostic was often asked to lead training for new hires.
