Civil servants could stop working over fears they could be complicit in war crimes in Gaza if Israel is found to have broken international law.
The union which represents civil servants, the Public and Commercial Services Union , said it was considering taking legal action to prevent its members in the department for Business and Trade "from being forced to carry out unlawful acts".PCS said that the government has an "obligation to do all it can to halt the onslaught".
A response to the union dated 13 March said "the question of criminal liability for civil servants is very unlikely to arise".However, the department said it can't share the legal advice it is receiving as it is "confidential". Labour MP John McDonnell, a founding member of the PCS union group in parliament, said the government must "come clean" and that "civil servants should not be put at risk".
