Now more than ever, we all need people to step up who are healthy enough to do so. And colleges know that students who make an impact in high school are more likely to keep doing the same in college.
Students vary widely in their available financial resources, support, and home stability, disparities that have all been widened in the age of COVID-19. Admissions officers work hard to understand the context in which every student lives and learns. Do what you can, whatever your current circumstance allows. While one student’s best might be teaching themselves to play piano, another’s might be to keep an eye on your siblings and to somehow complete your homework each day.
Your journey to college looks different than it did before, but the qualities that colleges appreciate from students—like curiosity, character, and effort—haven’t changed. Show colleges that you’re invested in your learning, your community, and your future, to whatever degree you’re able. Your best is all that anyone, or any college, can ask of you.
