Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola might have watched the England match through his fingers with so many of his players involved on Tuesday night. However, in the end, Guardiola pretty much got exactly what he wanted from the win over Italy.
Guardiola will have been pleased to see Stones start the game - his first start since picking up an injury earlier in the season - after the defender had only been fit enough to start on the bench in the final game before the international break against Arsenal.ALSO READ: Guardiola knows how to get Haaland firing yet again
For different reasons, the same can be said of Phillips. The midfielder started alongside Declan Rice in the engine room and lasted 70 minutes before he was replaced by Jordan Henderson.
