Moves on the billboardcharts: PostMalone's Circles takes over atop the PopSongs chart
The track is Post Malone's fourth Pop Songs No. 1, after "Psycho" , which led for four weeks beginning on June 16, 2018; "Better Now" ; and "Wow." .Ariana GrandeThe Pop Songs chart measures total weekly plays, as tabulated by Nielsen Music, among its reporting panel of 168 mainstream top 40 stations.
Plus, sonically, "Circles" sports a prominent 4/4 time signature, which, while common in pop music, is notable among Post Malone's less driving other singles, and somewhat reminiscent even of such farther back hits as's "Every Breath You Take" and 'Til Tuesday's "Voices Carry" in the '80s, or Toad the Wet Sprocket's "All I Want" and Soul Asylum's "Runaway Train" in the '90s .
"The first time I heard 'Circles,' I immediately thought it sounded familiar, even thinking at one point it might be a cover," Phil Guerini, vp of music strategy, Disney Channels Worldwide, and gm of Radio Disney Network, says with a chuckle. The song also stands out for Guerini beyond its beat. "The sound coupled with a clean lyric made it an easy choice as the first Post song we've been able to play on Radio Disney," he notes.
