Circle of Lights is celebrating the 60th anniversary of turning the Soldiers & Sailors Monument into a glowing Christmas tree in Indianapolis.
Christ Church Cathedral's Coro LatinoamericanoIn a change this year, the main performance stage will be moved to the circle's south side. Shortly before 8 p.m., Santa and the child selected from the AES Indiana Coloring Contest will flip the switch to the sparkle. WTHR will broadcast the ceremony.
The tradition of hanging lights from top to bottom on the Soldiers & Sailors Monument dates to 1962, though giant decorations on the circle go back well before that.15 classic holiday shows, movies, light displays and more to enjoy around IndianapolisMonument Circle and the spokes leading to it will be closed from about 7 a.m. to midnight Friday.
