All hail Queen Fiona! The Cincy Zoo unveiled a 24-foot-tall, 8-feet-wide nutcracker that took a team of 12 people and 1,650 hours to make for their annual festival of lights.
CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is hosting its 40th annual Festival of Lights, and to celebrate the zoo unveiled a giant Fiona nutcracker that sits at the zoo's main entrance.
"The nutcracker is truly unique," said Chad Yelton, the zoo's vice president of marketing and visitor experience.The nutcracker took 12 people around 1,650 hours to make the vision come to life, Yelton said.Fiona the hippo nutcracker time lapse There are also fun hidden"Easter eggs" on the nutcracker that tell Fiona's story.
The nutcracker also has 29 buttons on her coat for her birthweight of 29 pounds, and none other than Fritz, Fiona's younger brother, is painted on her toenail.

Devi the Elephant, 45, Euthanized at San Diego ZooA 45-year-old female Asian elephant at the San Diego Zoo has been euthanized because of her deteriorating health from age-related problems. The zoo says Devi was euthanized on Thursday after her mobility declined despite ongoing therapy. Devi arrived at the zoo in 1977 from an elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka. She was the second-oldest of five elephants at the zoo. In a statement, the zoo says Devi “inspired guests from all over the world to understand the importance of elephant conservation and leaves behind a remarkable legacy as an ambassador for her species.”
