WASHINGTON - CIA Director William Burns travelled to Kyiv last week for secret consultations with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine, according to two US officials.
On Monday, a delegation including Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman; Mr Jon Finer, the principal deputy national security adviser; and Mr Colin Kahl, the undersecretary of defence for policy, met with Mr Zelensky. Kyiv has often been tight-lipped about its operational plans. But before Ukraine’s September counter-offensive, its officials began to share more about their intentions, allowing the US to provide intelligence that helped Kyiv’s military reshape its plans to target weak points in Russian lines.
