The park, which had become an unsafe tent city, was supposed to be cleaned and reopened within 90 days after its closure last year

“Why take that piece of land?” asked Armando Farias, a school district administrator who wants the city to abandon plans to declare Harborside Park surplus property. “It’s the only green space for that community.” But earlier this year, led by Councilmember Andrea Cardenas, a majority of the city council voted to explore the idea ofand offering it as a development site for future condominiums or apartments.

In August 2022, when the council voted to clear out the tent city that had taken root at the community resource, officials said they would reopen the park within 90 days.
