The federal government also plans to introduce a national freeze on the sale, transfer and ownership of restricted handguns anywhere in the country. The measures are meant to “fight gun crime and keep Canadians safe,” according to a news release from the federal government earlier this year. The Leader-Post didn’t receive comment from the federal government by deadline.
Tell wrote that Ottawa’s “handgun freeze” won’t “in any significant way” affect actual crime committed with firearms in Saskatchewan and Canada. She stated most of these crimes are committed by criminals who smuggle guns rather than people who legally own firearms..
