Another fracture in the global economy for the energy transition to deal with

Exports of natural flake graphite and its products, including spheroidized graphite and expanded graphite, will be banned - unless permission is granted, China's official state news agency Xinhua said.
Permission will also be required for the export of artificial graphite materials and related products with purity greater than 99.9%, strength of more than 30Mpa, and a density higher than 1.73g/cc, it said.

"Additionally, synthetic graphite production is highly energy intensive, and the curbs may also reflect anticipation of higher costs limiting production capacity as winter looms," it said.
A boon for graphite project owners
It said that the latest developments should provide "some needed stimulus" to natural flake prices, which could be a boon for graphite project owners and downstream facility developers.
