For some, memories of the lockdown remain and questions persist.

But memories and remnants of the pandemic remain hard to shake off.

Since China relaxed its strict zero-COVID measures at the end of last year, physical crowds have been trickling into theatres. The actor had then just completed what he thought would be his last volunteer shift of checking exit documents at a neighbourhood. Little did he expect to be called on to volunteer again in October 2022, as authorities doubled down on strict curbs to try and contain the more contagious Omicron strain spreading in the country.

Mr Li felt moved during the lockdown to write and record a stage play about the situation but it was never made public.
