Remember how China’s Tianwen-1 spacecraft
NASA’s Mars Odyssey spacecraft was imaged twice by the camera aboard NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor in 2005. It Global Surveyor also took a picture of the European Space Agency’s Mars Express, and these were the first pictures of any spacecraft orbiting Mars ever taken by anIn addition to Tianwen-1 having its own remote cameras, the companion Chinese Mars lander and Zhurong rover placed a wireless remote camera on the ground to take pictures of both the rover and lander.
Tianwen 1 launched in July 2020 from the Wenchang Space Launch Center in Hainan province. It entered Mars’ orbit in February, 2021. A few months later, a landing capsule was released, sending a lander and orbiter to the surface of the planet, landing on May 15. This made China the third country, after the United States and Russia, , to successfully conduct a Mars landing.
