Opinion: Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye leaves mixed legal record
Not many Californians can name the members of the state’s Supreme Court, even though voters decide whether to retain these appointed officials on the ballot every four years.
One prominent name was missing from the ballot. Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, who has served as presiding judge since Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed her in 2010, chose to retire. She’s been widely lauded in judicial circles as a moderate voice on the court — and as an advocate for greater public access to the justice system. She’s known for her collegiality.
