The Chicago Latino Theater Alliance has named Jorge Valdivia as its new executive director, taking over the leadership role after the death of co-founderValdivia comes to CLATA from the National Museum of Mexican Art, where he served as the director of performing arts and led the Chicago museum in presenting a yearlong calendar of events focusing on performing arts, literature and film, including curating the annual Sor Juana Arts Festival.
Along with CLATA’s year-round mission “to increase Latino representation in Chicago theater,” according to the announcement, the organization’s “signature program” is the annual Destinos International Latino Theater Festival, a six-week, multivenue festival of theater from both Chicago and international presenters that recently wrapped its
