Consumer group Which? has revealed the winner
With the cost of living crisis in full swing, many shoppers are trying to save as much money as possible when it comes to things like the weekly food shop. Every little helps in terms of saving money, which is why consumer group Which? has conducted its annual price comparison of UK supermarkets to help shoppers.
The crowned winner was Aldi, which was also named the cheapest for a basket of 48 products for the month of December - marking its seventh consecutive win. Aldi also won the award in 2021, and was named the UK's Cheapest Supermarket for the last seven months of 2022.Known for its array of unique SpecialBuy's and affordable staple food items, the Aldi win may come as no surprise to some shoppers.
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be yet again named the Cheapest Supermarket of the Year. As we head into the new year with continuing uncertainty and further challenging times ahead, we want to assure our customers that Aldi remains resolutely committed to providing them with the best quality products at the lowest possible prices. We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised by Which? for a second consecutive year.
In December, Which? found Aldi to be £30.99 cheaper than the most expensive supermarket, Waitrose, £11.79 cheaper than Tesco and £14.08 cheaper than Sainsbury’s.
