The charity, Independent Age, has rounded up all the financial changes affecting people over 66.

Millions of retirees in receipt of the New or Basic State Pension are set for a significant income boost from this month after the Department for Work and Pensions increased weekly payment by 8.5 per cent on April 8. Additional State Pension elements, such as deferred amounts, have gone up by 6.7 per cent.

State Pension age The State Pension age is now 66 for men and women. The UK Government plans to increase it to 67 between 2026 and 2028 with a further rise to 68 planned in the future. Pension Credit tops up weekly income to a guaranteed minimum level of £218.15 a week for single pensioners or £332.95 for couples.Older people, or friends and family, can quickly check their eligibility and get an estimate of what they may receive by using the online Pension Credit calculator on GOV.UK here.

In Scotland, the higher earner must usually have an income between £12,571 and £43,662 and pay the relevant rates of income tax.
