We tasked our Leeds United reporter Beren Cross to give his prediction for the big game and set out how he see's the game going this afternoon at Wembley. Here's Beren's thoughts on the match. Hopefully he's spot on with his assessment. Three points separated these teams after 46 matches. Southampton won both of their meetings. The Saints scored six more goals. Leeds United conceded 20 fewer. The Whites had a 15-match unbeaten run.
Adam Armstrong was involved in 34 goals, Crysencio Summerville got in on 28. Ethan Ampadu, Summerville and Georginio Rutter were in the Team of the Season. Kyle Walker-Peters was in for Southampton. These are two teams that are so well-matched in so many areas of the field. The solidity of that Whites defence really stands out to me as the edge they might find.
Sunday’s sides will attack well and it could become quite end-to-end at times. It is going to come down to which of the backlines can bend without breaking. Illan Meslier has made huge saves in the biggest matches this season, while Joe Rodon and Ampadu have arguably been the best partnership in the division.
If they, with the help of Ilia Gruev, can keep Adam Armstrong and David Brooks quiet, it may prove the difference. If Che Adams is missing, that will be a massive boost for the Whites. In the other direction, Summerville vs Walker-Peters promises to be a mouth-watering clash. If the former can ask enough questions in attack and then dig deep to stay with the right-back when he counters down that flank, it will be huge for helping Junior Firpo. Joel Piroe and Rutter have to match the levels they showed in the semi-final to really cut their opponents apart. Score prediction: Leeds 2 Southampton 1.
